My inspiration for the term was actually a very brief appearance of this little spider engineer in the movie Rango. He was basically a steampunk spider with brass goggles and a bunch of moving lenses around his eye. He was seen constructing Rango's coffin. I actually found the clip here: [link]
The reason the mask and goggles aren't steampunk though is because I wanted to have the term refer to a more futuristic and refined feel to them, because there's already a lot of versions of steampunk as it is.
Ha, What an awesome trend that would be!
